Starting the Semester with Style

Last week I was strolling through Walmart looking for materials for the next d.i.y.s. I was very surprised to find notebooks from illustrator Jordi Labanda. I had some found of them about 2 years ago, but I didn't find any last year. Just when I was leaving the store, I spotted these. I've always loved looking at fashion illustrations, and this year specifically I want to surround myself with it as much as possible. I've gone crazy creating mood boards and collages for my room and work space because this year my resolution is to stay inspired and take some action. I picked up a bunch of different things and I have many ideas in mind. I just hope I have enough time between school to manage all that.

My make-up essentials pt. 2

1. Benefit's Posie Tint, High Beam and Benetint Trio

This was a gift from my boyfriend but I know it's a Sephora exclusive. It features sample sizes of Benefit's top selling products. I had always read wonderful reviews about each of the products, but I still didn't want to buy any of the full size products. I must say that I'm delighted with the results and will definitely purchase the full size products. The best part about these products is that a little goes a long way. Just one swipe of Posie Tint or Benetint is enough to last the whole day. The same thing goes for the High Beam. What I enjoy most about these products is that they look very subtle and provide a very natural glow. The only part I didn't like is the applicator brush that resembles those in nail polishes. It's a bit awkward to maneuver when you're going to use it to apply it as a blush so most of the time I just use my fingers.

2. Avon Draw the Line Mini Eye Liners

I also got this as a Christmas present. The size of these makes them perfect for traveling or just storing all of them in my purse. This set includes 4 lovely shades: bronze, purple, smokey grey, and sapphire blue. All of these are true to color and glide on very smoothly. The only downside I see to this product is that they tend to run out quickly and you have to twist them up several times with each use.

3. Urban Decay's Naked Palette

A lot has been said about this palette, so I don't think I need to say much. All of the shades a greatly pigmented and it has a nice variety of matte and shimmery shades. This is perfect for very natural everyday looks and I can't seem to stop using it.

What's in my bag?

I wanted to make a quick post about the bag I'm using right now. I got this clutch from my friend Ivo and I'm in love with it. I specially love the way it combines a classic shape and finish with the added pink elastic strap.  It reminds me a lot of Proenza Schouler's pre fall collection where they added sportswear touches to more classic shapes.

It's a pretty small clutch so I can only carry the basics. I carry my Hello Kitty wallet which was also a gift, Hard Candy's Tinted Lip Balm in Starfish, and my favorite nude lipstick. This lipstick is American Beauty's Luxury for Lips Lipcolor in the shade Desert Nude.

Layering neutrals

Layering neutrals

This season prepare to make a statement without using a single pop of color. Using a more understated palette full of nudes, grays, and pale pinks you will achieve a more luxurious feel. A look that is reminiscent of winter getaways to the tropics where lighter and breezier fabrics are common. This subtle palette will make sure you stand out in the sea of bright colors. Combine these shades to convey an elegant and sophisticated look. The monochromatic use of color will make your outfit look effortlessly chic. This trend has also been a very popular make up look. Consider using the same shades to create a natural healthy glow or a sultry smokey eye.

D.I.Y. Inspiration Board: Body Chains

Images via  http://www.armorjewelry.com/
Body chains are a perfect way to dress up an outfit. These can add a touch of edginess and elegance. I found this amazing collection of body chains from New York based designer Sandee Shin.  Mixing various types of chains, she drapes each creation. Each creation is handcrafted and made to order. Check out the rest of her designs here. Shin's pieces are absolutely gorgeous but since they're made from silver chains they're a bit out of my price range. For this reason, I'm using less expensive chains to create a look inspired by her skilled designs.
