D.I.Y: Faux Turban

Summer isn't over yet, so I thought it would be fun to create a fun and easy to wear faux turban. I created one with an elastic band so it'll be sure to be no fuss. Let's get to it! (Image heavy post ahead)

Other things you'll need that aren't pictured:
  • sewing machine
  • newspaper and markers
  •  L-square or T-square
  • measuring tape
  • iron
  • pattern(I made a pdf guide so you can draft your own. You can download it here)
  • regular scissors

1. After you are done drafting your pattern, carefully cut it out with a pair of regular scissors(fabric scissors dull if you use them to cut paper). Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut around it. After you're done, you should have two pieces that look like this:

2.  Fold the pieces in half making sure that right side of the fabric is facing the inside. Secure with pins. Sew a straight seam along the edge of the fabric.
3. Turn the fabric inside out. I find it's best if you iron the pieces after this just to make sure they lie flat. Take both of the ends and fold them so that they're facing the same side.

4. Sew along the edge carefully.  Measure around your head and subtract the length of the two pieces (17 inches) to obtain the measurement for the elastic. Cut the elastic and place it on top of the fabric you've just finished sewing.

5.  Fold the piece in half so the elastic is in between. Secure with pins and sew (You only have to do this with one of the pieces, the other piece you will have to sew later on).

6. Take the piece that hasn't been sewn and slip it between the already closed piece. Fold it in half and twist.

7. Take the unattached end of elastic and place it between the two strands like you did before. Secure with pins and sew.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask (I get the feeling that I might have forgotten something).
